“To develop into a whole human being, we need mental, physical, emotional and spiritual education” Rich Dad’s Cashflow Quadrant – Guide to Financial Freedom. I believe the same can be said for a wholistic marriage and relationship. At the heart of all successful relationship, you will find good communication skills, deep understanding of one’s partner and what makes them ‘tick’. Do you remember the book “Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus”. In my mind, that’s basically saying each gender is so different they could very well be from two completely different planets. Some may even tell you that those two planets are still too close together. Men may be far Mercury and Women may be from Neptune.
What if we could narrow the gap between the two, especially in the midst of a marriage or relationship? One method to achieving that could be to know what your spouse / partner likes. Hence, Love Languages!
According to Gary Chapman’s book “The 5 Love Language – Secret to Love That Last”, they are 5 ways in which couples can show their affection for their partner.
The 5 Love Languages are:
- Words of Affirmations
- Quality Time
- Receiving Gifts
- Acts of Service
- Physical Touch
It’s highly likely that your partner prefers one of the methods of a way of you showing your love, commitment and affection for him/her. That is not say that a person will or can only be perfectly placed in just one category. Don’t be surprised if you find that you are your partner has more than one preference.
